From what I've seen the main benefit of the BrewDog app is the fact that it protects your private keys. With the reference wallet, you don't have to worry about that because it does all of the work for you. The two private key storage areas are both on your phone though, so you can use them both on one device. This is perfect for people who live in multi-town homes or offices where they might share a smartphone.
