Contemporary Architecture

Contemporary architecture, also called contemporary interior architecture, is the design of the modern era. No single style dominates; modern architects are working across many different styles, including high-tech and minimalist architecture, inspired by various forms and abstract forms, resembling sculpture in a huge scale. A look at examples of contemporary architecture will show that this is not the case at all.

Contemporary architecture has become increasingly popular in recent years, as it is highly stylised and highly functional, making it possible to take any piece of furniture, home or office, and apply it in many different ways. The emphasis is on the functionality of the building itself, rather than on the use of style, although some modern style buildings have become extremely fashionable recently. In the context of contemporary architecture, the use of material such as glass, mirrors and metals is often very dramatic.

One of the major influences on modern architecture is postmodernism. This has become widely popular in the last twenty or thirty years or so, owing largely to the influence of American writers and artists, such as Jasper Johns, Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac. Postmodernist architecture tends towards geometric shapes, with minimal ornamentation, and often uses contrasting materials, such as metal or glass. This form of architecture has developed over the last couple of decades, as it is now possible to buy modern buildings in different countries around the world, and the quality of construction and materials used is high. Many famous examples of postmodern architecture include the London Docklands, which have been constructed largely in steel and concrete.

Another common influence on modern architecture in the recent past has been minimalist architecture. This has a very clean, geometric form, often influenced by French architect Le Corbusier and Bauhaus architecture. The minimalist style of architecture can have a very minimalist feel or can feature ornate ornamentation, but the main idea is to create a minimalistic architecture with minimal design elements.

Some of the most well-known examples of contemporary architecture are those in the United Kingdom. For example, the House of Parliament in Westminster, which features some of the highest levels of modern design, is in fact designed in a very high-profile style. Another good example is the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. It was originally designed as a building for Queen Victoria, but has been transformed over the years into a museum that offers a great deal of knowledge and understanding for people of all ages. Modern design has become hugely popular in recent years, and there are now many more modern buildings in the UK than in previous years.Chick here for more details about contemporary architecture

Modern architecture is not without its critics, who believe that it is a little too radical. However, its popularity has meant that many designers have taken on modern design as their own, producing modern versions of other classical styles. Many architects have also incorporated elements of contemporary architecture into their work, including the design of schools and universities.
